Anonymous asked: Surely the best way for us to influence change is to not complain because it's not listened to. Controversy sells. Instead just not buy the books that annoy us. I am completely put off by the retcon that the twins aren't Magneto's that I won't buy Uncanny Avengers Volume 2. I also don't like Remender Scarlet Witch. At least the impression I've been given from reading your formspring is that quality is measured fiscally. If sales drop on a successful book you know something is not working.

All of this is pretty true. It’s you guys and what you do that ultimately determines when something is working or not.

peppermonster it’s not cruel unfortunately it’s the reality of being a comic book fan. In this instance you are very vocal about how much you dislike this change. I hate it but I recognize the only way to get this changed back is to not buy the book. They don’t care if we buy and complain. They care if we don’t buy. The great thing about being a comic book fan though is that there are so many other characters out there that you can fall in love with while Quicksilver goes through this movie bullshit. When things like this happens it just shows how important writers are in the industry. We should really be following writers when they move books more so than characters.

No, I do not feel like “falling in love with other characters” thank you. I’m not a fair weather or fickle fan. I have loved Pietro since 1990 and even this horrible retcon cannot change that. Not horrible art, or bad casting can change that. Not Steve fucking Englehart’s horrible writing could change that. Marvel will still be getting my money (undeservedly) because I want to read about him and he has previously /barely/ been recognized, and gone long periods of time MIA. So what I’m being told is either go longer without him (which is a punishment) or read what they are doing to him (which is a punishment) and stop complaining because no one cares (which is rude and dismissive) and let them do what they will to him without me voicing a thought or opinion (which is punishment)

In the end, I have the right to complain until my face is purple if I want because I’m a paying customer who has given THOUSANDS of dollars so I have earned the right to sit on my fat fucking ass online and blog out into the interwebs all my concerns and complaints. Does Marvel have to listen to them? NOPE. But it’s my right to vent, and so long as I don’t threaten to punch Tom in the mouth again (it’s tempting, buddy, but I’m a “mature” adult :P ) I can keep on my merry way with my “I hate this” train with frequent stops at “fuck you” and “fuck this”. No one has to read it, listen, and can unfollow me, unfriend me, roll their eyes and ignore me.

I CARE about the twins. I consider them more than just family, in many ways I identify as Wanda, and I am going through a massive identity crisis with this retcon. My sister had me on suicide watch for a week because I was acting very emotional and irrational and was very depressed and harming. People say “its just a comic” and to some people, probably most people, it is. But to me it is not. They never have been. These characters are not fiction to me. They are my friends and my family, and myself, and I do not like it when they are fucked with in a crass and careless manner.

Now, this ask was a good ask, not my ask (all mine are done WITH my screen name) and it suggests I simply do not buy Uncanny Avengers. I cannot bring myself to do that. Even if this retcon is the worst thing to ever happen and they are made Inhuman, Magneto is written out, they are not Romani and Jewish, they are not mutants, Luna is not Pietro’s daughter, and they both die in the end…I will still read it, and cry. I cannot abandon my Pietro, I refuse to stop being Wanda, and yeah its awkward that my sister cosplays Lorna and my dad is Magneto. It makes my House of Magnus Tattoo depressing, but in the end, who am I? Marvel will do what they want, how they want, when they want, and to whatever character they want, whether I buy the comics or not. I wont change a thing by complaining. But I won’t change anything by not buying it either. Nothing I do matters, because I don’t matter. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside, doesn’t it? I feel appreciated.

All I can hope for is Pietro ends up with a decent relationship with his baby girl Luna, Wanda and Kurt (Nightcrawler) end up together (perfect couple), and Magneto stays their dad either adopted or symbolic, etc. I can hope on the other side of this I can dust them off, pick them up, and hug them.

If getting there doesn’t kill me first.

So no, Screw your “other characters” bullshit. I have some other favorites. Thor and New Thor, Carol Danvers, Quentin Quire, Noh-Varr….but that doesn’t mean i’m just going to jump ship the second rough waters surge. But thanks for being unhelpful.
